As a filmmaker, CHAN Kent believes the sense of "cinematic" is the expression of aesthetics as well as the methodologies of (artistic) creations in practice. "Image of the Dark" was the work CHAN Kent finished during his residency at Green Papaya Art Projects in Manila. Through the broadcast of the work "Lukas the Strange" by Philippine Director John Torres in a jungle and the only audience wandering around in the jungle, the artist tends to conduct a dialogue on the development of moving images in South East Asia. "Image of the Dark" attempts to bring the audience back to the moving images of South East Asia before modernity, a wild jungle mingled with the lighting of shadow playing as well as the tradition of oral narratives.
